Chapter 1
-Subjectivity is multiple and varies on context, no one root cause of all subjectification -Different domains of signs can overlap ie psychologies effect on the stock market -popular interplays of subjectivity can become progressive or reactionary -ecology and the subject⦠-the psychic harmony (or disharmony?) of desire in a population can cause institutions to collapse ex: USSR -media/military subjectivizes -colonialism leads to unifying attachments to conservative ways (Arab/Muslim countries) -technological modernization mixed with conservative attachment characterizes the age -Psychoanalysis too mechanistic -Subjectification both made from internal values and external circumstances -media technology subjectivizes (and incorporates into?) us through memory and sensory "fantasms" (lies/narratives?) -"a-signifying economy" ? -psychic not monopolized by signs -"universal and reductionist" - equates or contrasted?... Chapter 2
-Machine before technology -Aristotle saw machines as mediation of nature and technology to go beyond nature -Mechanistic (atomistic?), vitalist (living?), cybernetic (feedback or recursive), and autopoetic (self organizing) views of machines -Heidegger saw pre-moden technology as part of unveiling truth -Machines assessed by enunciation consistency (conditions of clear expression?) -Human made machines are mathematical organizations of energy or matter producing?/communicated? by mental representations, that situate subjectivity to said heterogeneous machinic circumstances they interface and are interfaced with that can all be infested by āabstract machinesā. = machinic assemblage -Abstract machines affect all levels, bestows affirmation/existence -Assemblages are not hard lines or borders -Assemblages are territories of context that form an ensemble of disparate deterritorialized components -Technology drains our psychic resources in exchange for development as humans dispose information toward technology -Structuralism unites signification in opposition and exchangeability -Machines express for its own sake in a sense? -Reactive feedback loops in structure that totalize -Machines are out of cosmic balance, and defer the exteriority of catastrophe and demise -Machines are interconnected -Machines transcend structural logics of development in their free interorganization -Lacanian lack is too all encompassing for heterogeneous forms of genesis that are machineās couplings -Machines are abstract in that they transcend the particular matter organized to its diagrams -Machines organizes themselves or each other -Machines are intergenerational collectives of self organization. -Part of human self organization is the organization of institutions and tools which are part of the same abstract machine -Forgotten machines can be selected as virtualities across time non linearly -Sustaining of machines is not certain however -Human must retain old rhythms of activity around matter to revive abstract machines of the past -Machines are non-localizable patterns which can be enacted across time and space -Material Machines that function in relation to each other can not guarantee their function, while the general abstract relationship itself can, and such machines can be reproduced indefinitely across time from the original diagram -Machines can be produced from the abstract diagram that can exchange the function of previous machines that have been deteriorated by history (The form of key can be repeated to open an old lock.) -Machines are limited by the abstract form that commands their function -Concrete Machines have value, function, freedom inasmuch as they follow the abstract diagram that created them. They are āsmoothedā to similar form by the demands of the machinic diagram non-locally across time due to the restraints of the form??? -Material consistency in machines (ie donāt make a key out of shampoo) āEvery abstract machine is a constellation of different overlapping universes of relation -The machineās relation to its function and surroundings only appears from a certain usually human perspective that color over its universes of relation -The linearity of time in conventional semiotics does not reflect the cross temporal universes of machines -Machines do not reveal a transcendent truth of technology but their own territory of relational universes -Desire rupture current paradigms by bringing their hidden relational universes with them. -Machines are valued laden -Capitalism flattens machinic value
Chapter 3
-Psychoanalysis and left movements lack direction -Machines are finite and death driven non-structural forces -Actual machines- communicating fluxes Virtual machines- universes of relation and territories -World is a chaos of "infinite speeds" organization slows said speeds through locations and "categorization" -machines traverse both self articulation and inter articulation -non-communicating content takes precedent over communicating signs which try to reign them in, made free in unmonopolized trajectories of connection? -possible communication of abstract machinic diagrams (virtual interdetermination alla Deleuze?) which becomes real communication of matter in certain places and times, possible universes of relation incarnate real individuals amongst other material machines open to said universe? -content connected with refrain/rhythm connected to transhistorical relations of lived realities which takes precedence over the particular circumstances of material actualization of abstract ahistorical yet universal functions? -Discourse/representation covers over the machine's real expression -Christianity and Freudianism disrupted and recharacterized previous paradigms of the possible and real and themselves be reconstituted by Guattari by an alternative use -Psychosis for Guattari begins at a breakdown of perceived order at an "encounter" of some type -The refrains of psychosis feeds its own narrative construction? -Machines are unbounded to universal trajectories and can pass into different universes of value or relation due to particular contingent assemblages with other machines -Sense of self interdependent on types of alterity or other interacted with
Child development: -Early development of children occurs in singular events that open new relational universes not teleological or deterministic trajectories or stages -Next stage of development is able gravitate the plurality of refrains a child associates with beforehand into a middle nexus between mind and body -Next stage of development marked by recognition of the interrelation and lack of interrelation of bodies/the other in affectivity further concentrating center into monopolized affectivity -Society finally crystallizes the subject by reactively repressing and shaming their previous self constitutions -Psychotics should be treated by reopening their machinic lines of reconstitution -Psychotic therapy should accommodate the differences of each patient with clearly defined issues to address in each patient while opening the patient to collective flows of novel experience which produces a cut in the psychotic's lived experience -Therapeutic social integration should merely be the guiding of the patient's making up for their own lack of flows in their lives through their own self organization -Freud, Lacan, and capitalism eternalize certain judgmental readings of childhood activity and lock off their intrinsic possibilities
Chapter 4
-Normality confines the chaotic free connections of singular connections -Psychosis can be closed in on itself by exterior and interior forces -Psychoanalysis homogenizes the conditions of psychosis to universal categories -Psychosis is open to numerous universes of relation when not repressed or hypnotized by social conditioning -Psychosis is more primordial non-categorizing arrangement of subjectivity -Psychosis makes connections unmitigated by repression which leads to the appearance of chaos to external observers -Psychosis is triggered by a radically singular event that opens up a freeness of connections after the eventās new perspective splits the subjectās time -Openness comes from an intense powerful exception in relation to particular forces rather than a flattening of energy like heat death. -Psychotic openness is creative -Psychosis reveals the otherās unconscious activity through a non-linguistic ādanceā of inactive expression or catatonic states -Psychosis is composed of ever dividing and atomizing others that compose oneās strata -The psychotic can reconstruct themselves when they feel responsible to the others that comprise them -The psychotic is not a hero but reveals aspects of immanent states of being in our contemporary era -Psychotic repressing institutions must utilize the very encounter based psychotic bodies they want to repress in order to maintain themselves??
Chapter 5
-The mouth absorbs fluxes and produces them at the same time (speaks and eatsā¦) -Social commands repress the excessive flows of speech while common speech allows some of it in order to make the market more efficient? -Art does not recall developmental interior history but exterior world histories grounded in the disequillibriumizing encounter within their playful structures in Guattariās opinion -Art is a paradigm of revolutionary carrying forth of intergenerational struggle though one that is not necessarily the vanguard of heroic change in Guattariās view -Aesthetic becomings transgress the lines between the internal and the external -Childhood crosses many universes of becoming-other -The encounter with art is an existence that transports us to other universes of relation immediately almost and transforms us after such encounter into the other of the universes -The giving to other of aesthetics gives way to the potential death of the subjectivity in the hands of the other which returns subjectivity to a zero point of pre-universal encounter by the drift of an alienating fascination with a particular force -The Object A of Lacan did not take the non-localizability of desire to its freely connecting creative end -There is non one āBig Otherā but many others with universes of relation
Chapter 6
-Art has becomes removed from social reference in late modernity -Old societies connected subjectification with being initiated in outside social sphere -The engrainment of our current paradigm clouds our imagination of previous networks of subjectivity -We see aesthetics in utilitarian technology of the past -Reaesetheticization of the past will be virtual in character -Science places finite traversable variable over transcendent references -Aesthetics are in a higher vantage in our current era -The art Guattari is interested in is a horizon of the future open by social rhythms to intensive value laden territories? -Space is aestheticized in territories it is also a use for? -The territories or strata attract different alterior values to themselves in space -The internal and external overflow into each other constantly -Time and space is constelated by value laden ritual
- Forms generate universes and the universal abstract machines depend on finite limited incarnations āThe value laden cross relational dance of territories is covered over by transcendent hierarchical valueless illusions -Capitalism is primary flattening value of our time -Transgressive art connects to the sacred in our era where social ritual once did in old ones -Machinism has an element of choice alien to mechanism -Neutral monist Guattari -Being for Guattari is self organization of externalities -The ways of being takes precedence over any one falsified true nature of Being -Machines are a non-homogenous infinity -Every machine is between infinite speed which dislodges local connections and a finite speed that folds them up -Contractions of finitude open gates of infinite virtuality that must be creatively articulated together before they are flattened by concepts according to Guattari??? -All self articulating contractions of infinite possibility out of finite intensities are connected despite the autonomy of each contraction -The ability for contractions of the finite to pass between other contractions creates a linear decrease in infinite virtual possibilities??? -The choice to finitize the fold between different contractions retroactively creates a causal trajectory -The body is a series of self creating interconnected perspectivesā¦
Chapter 7
-Guattari views ecological crisis connected to a psychological one -Psychological reconstitution for Guattari requires political reorganization -Eastern bloc bifurcated due to failures of both the east and the western bloc -Guattari sees the state as a contradictory multiplicity -Guattari believe economic activities should produce subjectivity -Parties integrate into the state -There is no world market and every market is ontologically distinct -New markets independent of current regimes of domination must be establishedā -Privation of machinic diagrams or territories mixed with the self organization of material machines generate subjectification in tandem with each other?? -Flux replace libido, territory replaces self, universes replace structures of the unconscious, and āchaosmic entitiesā replace signifiers -Ecosophy does not proclaim eternal truths but dares toward radical fronts of change. āEcosophy creates the self expression of singular points -Universal value only exist to Guattari as far actual machines incarnate them -Aesthetic revolutions overturn old art forms as well
